Remote Subtitler or Captioner

Off by two frames, and the timing kills the joke. One wrong word, and a scene means something else entirely. Closing that gap is basically the job description. We're hiring a Remote Subtitler or Captioner to do it — someone who catches the problem before a viewer ever does. About the Role You take spoken dialogue and turn it into on-screen text. It has to read naturally and hit its timing so precisely that nobody thinks about the timing at all — that's the whole trick. Sometimes you're cleaning up a machine transcript. Sometimes it's just raw audio, and you're starting from nothing. The standard doesn't change either way. What Fills the Day Transcribing, then syncing everything to the picture. A big share of the work is fixing what an AI tool already got wrong, so knowing its blind spots matters as much as knowing grammar. Multilingual jobs land here, too, and that's never a straight word-for-word swap — tone and cultural context need just as much attention as literal accuracy. Then there's quality control: catching typos, fixing timing drift, and chasing down sync failures when a live broadcast breaks midstream. What Gets You Considered A high school diploma or its equivalent is all the education required for this role. Nobody's grading your transcript here — speed and accuracy do the talking. Experience-wise, we want at least a year of experience in subtitling, captioning, or transcription work somewhere. High school diploma or equivalent 1+ year in subtitling, captioning, or transcription Works comfortably in video editing tools and speech-to-text software Catches the small grammar and spelling mistakes before they go out the door Some grounding in accessibility standards — FCC, ADA, WCAG Adjusts quickly to new tools, since this field keeps changing underneath you Not a requirement, but worth mentioning if it applies: fluency in another language for localization work, experience with live captioning specifically, or knowledge of how broadcast delivery formatting differs from standard files. How the Work Runs Fully remote, with hours that flex to cover different time zones since the client base is spread out. Most coordination with video editors, localization specialists, and QA reviewers happens through Slack and Trello. This role is listed in a few places right now, including Naukri Mitra, though the same review process applies no matter where an application comes from. Tools You'll Use Most alignment and preview work happens in Aegisub, Amara, or Final Cut Pro X. AI speech-to-text takes a first crack at longer projects, but a person still has to catch its mistakes — and there tend to be more of those than people assume. Coordination runs through secure cloud platforms, with QA dashboards tracking accuracy and turnaround times. Pay and What Comes With It This role pays $105,000 annually. Fully remote, with schedule flexibility across time zones Home office stipend and support for equipment upgrades Paid training on current captioning tools and systems Bonuses tied to quality and how fast work gets turned around Exposure to broadcast, education, and streaming clients worldwide Where It Leads People who consistently deliver clean, fast work here tend to end up leading QA, or specializing in localization for a language pair they've built real depth in. Not a bad way into media accessibility work overall if that's a field you're interested in long-term. Apply Open to applicants in the U.S., Canada, the UK, the EU, Australia, India, and several other regions. Send a resume and a sample of subtitling or captioning work if you've got one on hand — it says more than a written description of your process would.
