Remote Podcast Editor (Beginner-Friendly)

Raw audio is usually a mess. Dead air, mouth clicks, a host who trails off mid-sentence and never quite finds their way back. Somebody has to fix that before an audience hears it. That's the job. We're hiring a Remote Podcast Editor, and yes, beginners are genuinely on the table here — if you've got a decent ear and enough patience to sit with a track until it feels right, we'll teach you the rest. The Actual Work You'll take multi-track recordings and shape them into something listenable. Sometimes that's heavy lifting — noise all over the place, levels bouncing around. Other times it's barely anything, just a trim here and a fade there. Either way, the end goal is the same: make it sound like everyone's sitting comfortably in the same room, even when they clearly weren't. Editing Turn raw, multi-track recordings into a clean, finished episode Handle EQ, compression, and noise reduction so the audio sounds professional Trim dead air and filler without flattening the natural back-and-forth Drop in intros, outros, and sound beds that keep each show's identity intact Staying in Sync With the Team Talk with producers and hosts about tone, pacing, and what each episode needs Show up to weekly Slack or Zoom check-ins for notes and direction Stay reachable in chat, even on days you're mostly heads-down editing Keeping Files From Turning Into Chaos Stick to consistent naming and backup habits on the shared drive Export finished episodes in the right formats, metadata included Update episode status — edited, in review, published — on Trello or Notion What Gets You Hired A High school diploma or equivalent covers the education side. No professional editing experience required — this role exists for people who are motivated but still building a portfolio, not people who've already spent years in a studio. If you've cut a class project, a friend's podcast, anything at all, mention it. It gives us a sense of where you're starting. What Helps You've used at least one editing tool before — Audacity, Descript, Adobe Audition, Reaper, whatever You can tell when a conversation sounds natural versus choppy You have a rough grasp of EQ, compression, general cleanup You can work independently and stay responsive without needing constant nudges Bonus, Not a Dealbreaker You've edited an actual podcast before, even informally You care about storytelling and pacing, not just cleanup You Won't Be Left Guessing Nobody expects you to show up already knowing every trick. You'll get onboarding materials, honest feedback on early edits, and a producer who'll tell you straight what worked and what didn't. Some of our current editors first came across this listing on Naukri Mitra, looking for exactly this — a role where "beginner-friendly" wasn't just a headline that fell apart on day one. Pay This role pays $85,000 a year, with room to move up as your speed and editing quality improve. On top of that: Fully remote, flexible hours — early mornings or late nights, doesn't matter Real mentorship, not just tasks dropped in your lap Pay increases tied to actual milestones, not a fuzzy annual review Why Any of This Matters An episode lands or it doesn't, and editing decides a lot of that. Hold a pause a beat too long, and a joke dies. Let the audio stay muddy, and a guest sounds less sharp than they actually were. Your cuts shape how people experience the show — not just whether it's technically clean, but whether it's actually good to listen to. Ninety Days In, You'd Be Editing one or two episodes a week without needing hand-holding Someone hosts and producers trust with pacing and tone calls Catching small fixes on your own instead of waiting to be told Delivering on time, organized, without anyone chasing you Does This Sound Like You? You'd probably like this if you notice rhythm as much as words, if feedback sharpens you instead of stinging, and if you'd rather actually learn the craft than fake your way through it. Years of experience aren't the point here. A good pair of headphones and the willingness to redo a cut until it's right — that's closer to it. Apply Send a sample if you've got one, even something rough or unofficial. No sample yet? Tell us why this kind of work interests you instead. Open to candidates in California, plus applicants in Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, and India who can work within our remote setup.

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? 2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?
