EMAIL MARKETING + SQUARESPACE SPECIALIST Contemporary Artist + Creative Brand | Remote | Part-Time - Contract to Hire

ABOUT THE ROLE

I’m a professional visual artist working at the intersection of painting, music, synesthesia, live performance, and digital storytelling. I have a large existing social audience and a business spanning original artwork, commissions, prints, artist collaborations, live experiences, and creative projects.

I’m looking for a hands-on Email Marketing + Squarespace Specialist to take ownership of my email marketing and help improve and maintain my Squarespace website.

The biggest priority is email.

I have an existing audience and a lot happening creatively, but I need someone who can turn that activity into a consistent, thoughtful email channel that strengthens the relationship with my audience and supports sales of prints, originals, commissions, and other projects.

I’m looking for someone who can think strategically, write extremely well, and actually execute the work themselves inside Squarespace.

EMAIL MARKETING

You will own much of the email process end-to-end, including:

• Developing a consistent email marketing strategy and calendar

• Writing emails in my voice

• Building, designing, testing, and scheduling emails directly in Squarespace Email Campaigns

• Creating newsletters, storytelling emails, artwork releases, launches, sales campaigns, and other sequences

• Developing automated email flows and subscriber journeys where appropriate

• Improving list growth and email capture

• Segmenting the audience when useful

• Connecting email campaigns to what is happening across social media, the website, artwork releases, collaborations, exhibitions, and other projects

• Tracking open rates, clicks, conversion, sales, and other relevant performance metrics

• Testing and improving campaigns based on results

WRITING + BRAND VOICE

This is extremely important.

I need someone who can learn how I naturally communicate and write convincingly in my voice.

The emails should feel personal, intelligent, visually aware, and genuinely connected to the work. They should not read like generic e-commerce marketing or like they came from a corporate marketing department.

You should be a strong enough writer to take source material from me, such as voice notes, social posts, rough thoughts, project information, images, or a conversation about what I’m working on, and turn it into polished email copy without requiring me to rewrite everything.

SQUARESPACE WEBSITE

You will also help maintain and improve my existing Squarespace website, including:

• Updating pages, artwork, copy, images, and calls to action

• Creating and updating landing pages for launches and campaigns

• Improving email signup opportunities throughout the site

• Making changes to support print, original artwork, and commission sales

• Improving customer journeys and conversion

• Keeping the website current as projects and priorities change

• Making design/layout adjustments within Squarespace when needed

• Connecting website changes with current email and marketing campaigns

You do not need to be a developer. I am specifically looking for someone who is highly comfortable working within Squarespace and can independently make polished updates without requiring a web developer for routine changes.

STRATEGY

Although this is a hands-on execution role, I don’t want someone who simply waits for me to dictate every email.

I’d like you to be able to look at what is happening in the business and proactively identify opportunities.

For example: if I’m releasing a new print, you should be able to think through the email sequence, landing page, website changes, timing, messaging, and calls to action needed to support that release.

I’ll provide the creative direction, artwork, projects, stories, and access to what is happening in the business. I want you to help turn those things into a consistent marketing system.

WHO I’M LOOKING FOR

You may be a strong fit if you:

• Have substantial hands-on email marketing experience

• Are an excellent copywriter

• Can learn and preserve a founder/artist’s individual voice

• Have strong experience with Squarespace Email Campaigns

• Are highly comfortable editing and maintaining Squarespace websites

• Understand email strategy, segmentation, automation, list growth, and conversion

• Have good visual taste and can design polished emails and pages

• Understand e-commerce and conversion without making everything feel overly sales-driven

• Can work independently and proactively

• Are organized, responsive, and reliable

• Understand how email and websites connect with social media and broader campaigns

• Ideally have experience with artists, musicians, designers, creative founders, cultural brands, fashion, entertainment, or other visually driven businesses

You do not need to manage my entire marketing ecosystem or social media presence. I’m specifically looking for someone who can become excellent ownership-level support for email + Squarespace.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

I want email and my website to stop being things that only move forward when I personally have time to manage them.

You should be able to take what I’m already creating and doing, understand what is worth communicating to my audience, write it in a way that sounds like me, build and send the campaigns, make the corresponding website changes, and measure what happens.

Over time, I want email to become a consistent and meaningful revenue and relationship-building channel for the business.

TO APPLY

Please send:

• A short introduction and why you’re interested in this role

• Examples of email campaigns you personally wrote AND built

• Examples of Squarespace websites you have personally worked on

• Specific experience with Squarespace Email Campaigns

• Examples of copywriting for a founder, artist, or personality-led brand, if available

• A brief explanation of how you learn a client’s writing voice

• An example of an email campaign or sequence that drove measurable results

• Your availability and approximate hours per week

• Your hourly rate

Please be specific about what you personally executed in the examples you share versus what was handled by other team members.

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
